How to apply for the IB (deadline April 1st 2025):
Residence Permit
Students from outside the EU/EEA, must obtain a valid residence permit for studies in Norway to be eligible for admission. We recommend starting the application process for the residence permit as early as possible, trough UDI. UDI is responsible for processing applications from foreign nationals who wish to visit or live in Norway.

Academic Requirements
- Applicants must have completed and passed Vg1 Studieforberedende (Year 1 of General Studies), the final year of the MYP, or an equivalent to the Vg1.
- Applicants must demonstrate strong academic proficiency in English and Mathematics.
- Additionally, applicants should be highly motivated and prepared to commit to the academic rigour of the IB programme.
Application Process
- You will need to submit an online application through vigo.no and complete a local application form specific to our school (this form is available on our website together with our Admission Policy (PDF, 184 kB).
- Please include a copy of your transcript or diploma from your previous school with your application.
- Applying from system other than the Norwegian education system:
- Applicants must have completed and passed an equivalent of Vg1 General Studies in the Norwegian educational system for upper secondary schools, or the final year of the MYP.
- Documentation of level of study, subjects studied, and results must be sent to Aust-Lofoten Upper Secondary Scool well in advance of the March 1st application deadline.
- The applicant's grades are converted to a Norwegian equivalent, in order to compare them with other applicants. This is done on a case by case basis by the admissions office, if necessary, in cooperation with Aust-Lofoten vgs., depending on the system from which the student is applying.
- Where this is not possible, the admissions office has the final decision on how this application will be treated.
Interviews and Assessments
- If your academic documentation does not clearly demonstrate proficiency in Mathematics and English, with a minimum grade of 4 (Norwegian grading system), you may be required to attend an interview and take a test in these subjects as part of the admissions process.
Accommodation
- You are responsible for securing accommodation in the Svolvær/Kabelvåg area. However, our school is available to assist you with guidance and local resources to help you in your search.
Important Notes:
We encourage all applicants to carefully consider these requirements before applying. The IB Diploma Programme is a challenging and rewarding experience that demands dedication and hard work.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our IB Coordinator at svebus@nfk.no.
